FORUM ON PUBLIC OPINION AND HOUSING POLICY IN ONTARIO AND CANADA Call for Proposals

Housing policy has become an urgent topic in discussions of everyday life in Canada. To facilitate knowledge about public attitudes to housing, the Laurier Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy (LISPOP) invites calls for proposals for a mixed academic and community symposium on the intersection of public opinion and public policy for housing in Ontario and Canada. The symposium will be held on October 6th, 2022.

In addition to sharing findings from LISPOP’s 2022 Ontario Provincial Election Survey, which focussed on housing policy, the symposium will explore public opinion and housing policy in Canada from the perspectives of academics, community organizations and policy makers. • Intersectional approaches to housing and public opinion
  • Conceptions of housing as a human right, market good and the National Housing Strategy
  • Interest groups, collective identities, and housing policy
  • Local dynamics of public opinion and housing policy Methodological innovations in studying public opinion and housing

In order to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and insights among a wider range of interested parties, we are also inviting participation by stakeholders, community organizations, policy makers and municipal governments on the following topics:

  • Community organizing and public opinion concerning housing, homelessness and/or neighbourhood development
  • Student perspectives on housing policy and policy change
