Job Description
The Canadian Public Administration (CPA) is looking for a new editor to start in January 2025.
CPA is the peer-reviewed, learned journal of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) and, for over 70 years, has been the leading academic journal in the field of Canadian public administration and public policy. First published in 1958, CPA continues to publish four issues per year, both in print and electronically. Articles in French and English that touch on all aspects of Canadian public administration, public policy, governance and international comparisons are welcomed from those working in the academic and practitioner communities.
The ideal candidate will be an academic entrepreneur who will place the journal within a vibrant resource system. The Editor must hold a tenured position in social sciences at a recognized degree-granting Canadian institution, and have expertise in Canadian and comparative public administration. Knowledge and passion for the public sector (federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, Indigenous) is a critical asset for success. The recruitment committee also welcomes proposals from those interested in applying as an editorial team.
The Editor is responsible for the editorial philosophy of the journal, its policies and promotion, the recruitment of Associate Editors and the Editorial Board, and the reporting relationship with the IPAC Board of Directors.
In addition, the Editor selects leading experts to review manuscript submissions, manages the rigorous peer-review process, assesses referee reports, and decides which manuscripts will be published. Manuscript submission, review, and revision are processed through web-based software. The Editor is supported by the Managing Editor and receives a modest annual honorarium.
How To Apply
Applications: Those interested in the position should include a Cover Letter, a current CV, and the names and contact information of two references. The Cover Letter should include an overview of the applicant’s or team’s appropriate qualifications and experience, in addition to a vision for the journal and potential sources of institutional resources to support the editorial work of the journal.
Please address your candidature to the CPA Editor Recruitment Committee. Applications or any questions about the position can be sent via email to Zachary Spicer at zspicer@yorku.ca.
Deadline: 15 November 2024
