Université Laval is a leading French-language university. It is a major research university ranked among the top ten research universities in Canada. It holds three (3) Canada Excellence Research Chairs and 84 Canada Research Chairs, ranking 6th in terms of funding from major Federal Councils. Founded in 1954, the Department of Political Science at Université Laval played an important role in the political modernization of Quebec during the Quiet Revolution. Since its creation, it has welcomed several thousand individuals from Quebec, Canada and abroad to receive quality training. It continues to be a leader in political science research and teaching. Nearly 750 students attend our various undergraduate programs each year (Bachelor degree and certificate in Political Science, Integrated Bachelor degree of Economics and Politics, Integrated Bachelor degree of Public Affairs and International Relations, Integrated Bachelor degree of Philosophy and Political Science, and Microprogram on Contemporary Issues in the Arab World and the Middle East), graduate programs (Master of Political Science, Master of Public Affairs) and Ph.D of Political Science). It is composed of a faculty that encompasses all methodological approaches in the discipline, including quantitative and qualitative analyses, ethnography, massive data analysis, meta-evaluations, content and discourse analyses, and formal analyses. The Department is home to or associated with a large number of research centres and chairs, including the Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Public Diplomacy, the CRC on Immigration and Security, the CRC in International Political Economy, the Teaching Leadership Chair (CLE) in Digital Social Sciences, the Research Chair on Democracy and Parliamentary Institutions, the Northern Sustainable Development Research Chair, the Centre for Public Policy Analysis, the Centre for Inter-American Studies, the Centre on International Security, the Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Africa and the Middle East, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on International Trade and Investment, the Interuniversity Centre for Indigenous Studies and Research, the Research Lab on Political Communication, the Group for the Studies and Research on Contemporary Asia, the Perfeval and PolText Research Laboratories, as well as our privileged partnership with the Institut québécois des hautes études internationales. This makes our Political Science Department one of the largest and most active in Canada.
