Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, International Relations

The Political Science program within the School of Social, Political, and Historical Research (SSPHR) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in International Relations beginning 1 July 2027.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Political Science or an equivalent discipline. The School gives preference to a scholar with a demonstrated active research program in one or more of the following areas:

  • international political economy,
  • international organizations/law,
  • Canadian foreign policy, or
  • Canada-United States relations.

Duties

Duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervising graduate students. The ability to develop and teach a variety of traditional and online courses is required.

About the School

SSPHR is a new interdisciplinary unit, established in 2026. In addition to undergraduate and graduate programs in Political Science, candidates will also have opportunities to teach at the Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA), an institute for advanced research, education, and outreach in global governance, international public policy, and development practice, including the PhD and MA in Global Governance. SSPHR also offers the Master of Public Service degree, a multidisciplinary, professional degree program.

Salary

The salary range for this Assistant Professor position is $100,000 to $125,000.
