Job Opportunity: Future Skills Centre – Executive Director

The Future Skills Centre – Centre des compétences futures (FSC-CCF)is an exciting new arms-length research centre established through the Government of Canada’s Future Skills Program to strengthen Canada’s skills and training ecosystem and ensure Canadians are skilled and equipped to meet the diverse needs of the nation’s employment market. A collaboration between Ryerson University, the Conference Board of Canada, and Blueprint-ADE, the FSC-CCF will identify, replicate, and scale evidence-based solutions to improve knowledge of trends and skills, promote more inclusive and responsive career development processes, and improve access to high quality training. Working in collaboration, the FSC-CCF will access a network of more than 150 partners linking thousands of service providers, employers, community groups, academic and practitioner researchers. Building on this growing community of practice, the consortium will complement existing structures and drive systems change by promoting effective policies and practices. The FSC-CCF will enhance existing networks, promoting collaboration using leading-edge technology platforms to create and disseminate new knowledge. It will advance evidence-driven innovation in skills development to improve outcomes, increase inclusivity and resilience, and fuel growth.

The ExecutiveDirectorwill lead the establishment of governance and infrastructure for the organization and will lead and manage the FSC-CCF operations, processes and systems. Reporting to the Vice-President, Research and Innovation at Ryerson University, the Executive Director will collaborate with key partners at the Conference Board of Canada and Blueprint-ADE, the Advisory Board and Ryerson’s senior leadership team on the development of strategic plans for FSC-CCF and will be accountable for the implementation of these plans, the realization of the organization’s objectives and the fiscal stewardship of the organization. The Executive Director will ensure that FSC-CCF’s processes and systems effectively support the cultivation, invitation, identification, selection and assessment of research and pilot projects that result in the effective mobilization and dissemination of knowledge. The Executive Director will foster a pan-Canadian, cross-sectoral network of diverse partners and stakeholders to address the future skills needs of Canadians.

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned and passionate senior leader with significant experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. You possess a graduate degree in a related field or discipline, and are fluent in both official languages. You have demonstrated experience in public policy development, government relations and/or partnership and project development, and have worked extensively with diverse stakeholders – ideally including industry, federal, provincial and municipal governments, community groups, NGOs and NFPs, research organizations, academic institutions, employers, technology leaders, funders, and the general public.  You naturally see opportunities and are skilled in creating strategic partnerships and mutually-beneficial collaborative initiatives. Skilled at fostering a work environment and culture characterized by innovation, professionalism, collaboration, continuous learning and accountability, you are able to inspire, engage, and motivate others. You possess a deep understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of creating a new organization, and have experience developing strategies, policies, procedures, metrics and plans to guide operations and ensure accountability.
